I'm an experienced photographer already equipped with DSLRs (EOS 30D, EOS 5D MKII), but these are not always pratical when you are travelling or biking (I do both on a regular basis). I try to take my DSLRs as often as possible with me but but there are occasions when I don't want to be bothered by the bulky cameras. At the same time, having already invested significantly in DSLR equipment, I wanted to limit my investment. A G10 or G11 would have been nice but for what I wanted to do, it would have been an overshoot. I'm mainly using my A1100is for candid pictures or pictures of places I know I will be coming back with my DSLRs later. Overall, I'm happy about quality of the pictures. I rarely use the full resolution, I typically shoot with medium resolution as I will rarely print large pictures (I have my DSLRs for that).

What I like:

- price

- size

- optical viewfinder (not many point and shoot cameras at this price range still has an optical viewfinder)

- slow shutter speed flash mode

- IS

What I'm missing:

- no aperture priority mode where I can choose a precise f-stop

- wish would have a wider angle

I would definitely recommend this for people on low budget but still wants good quality pictures. It has a lot of features for a camera which sells around $150.

The Canon Digital Rebel XS is a quality entry level SLR,bearing the Canon reputation.As a package kit it is fairly priced given the 2 basic lenses included. The gadget bag is so-so...but adequate. To round out this kit I also bought 2 HOYA filters (a circular polarizer and a UV filter).

As another reviewer mentioned there are better Canon digital SLR's out there,and they are priced accordingly. I do believe however that this outfit from Cameta represents a fair-priced starter kit for those upgrading from point and shoot cameras.

If budget constraints require a compromise between the "good" and the "best" this is a good choice in mid-2009, in my opinion. Buy Canon Digital

Wonderful digital camera!

This camera is impossible to beat at this price. I won't write a lengthy review, but, you can set this camera in fully automatic mode and hand it to a "point and shoot" person, and they will obtain fantastic results. For the amateur photographer, this has all of the bells and whistles, what I love is I can reset the camera rapidly for multiple shots of the same scene on very different settings. Married with a decent photo program on your computer, it is possible to achieve professional results.

Very nice - quite handy I bought a cheap off-brand version of this. It failed after less than a year. I then bought this one; it hasn't let me down yet. I have epoxied a string lanyard to it, so that I can hang it around my neck. It is very small; quite a risk that it could be lost or misplaced. It works great,I can't forget to mention that!

Fantastic! I read other reviews about this remote being hit or miss- To be honest, I think it's perfect. I do long exposures with this without needing to use the timer, and super extended exposures very easily. The only "issue" I've encountered isn't an issue at all-- you just have to make sure you're hitting the sensor on the camera in order for it to work. It's not the remote's fault, it's your aim! Great device, fantastic price, couldn't be happier.

Great digital picture frame! Great frame. Everything works like a charm. Why buy the higher priced brand when everything about this one works?

Excellent Digital Picture Frame This review is for the 8" Sony Digital Picture Frame (Model #DPF-D80). I specifically wanted this photo frame because it has the 4:3 aspect ratio and that is what all my picture are taken in. I didn't want to get any of the widescreen frames (16:9 aspect ratio) and have my pictures be stretched, cropped and/or have the black bars on the sides or tops of each picture. Also, I just wanted my pictures to be displayed. No need for video or music being played or viewing a clock. Just a basic digital picture frame and that is what this is. So far I have loaded over 700 pictures on this frame using a 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo that I keep inserted into the frame at all times. This frame only has 256MB internal memory (actually less with the software included on the internal memory), which isn't a whole lot. They say you can load up to 500 photos to the internal memory and I got to 441 pictures before the internal memory became full. More on that later. I have had no problems with errors, pictures not downloading or pictures not being able to be viewed with this frame. What I do is download every picture taken with my digital cameras (or scan hard copies of pictures) and save them onto my computer. I then resize them with InfranView and re-save them on my computer. I then use Roxio Easy Media Creator to adjust the colors and sharpness before I do a final re-save to my computer. 75% of my pictures loaded onto this frame are in 1024x768 resolution and are each about 600-800KB in size. For that size and resolution I'm amazed I got close to the 500 pictures allowed on the internal memory. My computer does not have a slot for a memory card so I had to do some extra steps to get all my pictures saved on the memory card. I copied the most allowed pictures onto the internal drive of the picture frame and then exported them all to the memory card. I then erased them all on the internal drive of the picture frame and repeated the steps again. Now I view them all with the memory card and can keep adding until the memory card is full. The color and quality of the pictures are amazing. This is one of a few 8" frames that has the 800x600 resolution. All the 8" Kodak picture frames I was looking at were only in 800x480 resolution and was no where near as clear and vibrant as this Sony picture frame. Why this did not receive "5" stars is: small internal memory, very expensive for a basic digital picture frame and the frame easily attracts fingerprints. Also, to view your pictures as a slideshow via the shoot date doesn't mean so. If you have a picture taken in 1990 but you resized, changed the color or brightness in 2009 and then re-saved it.......the picture now has a modification date of 2009 and that is how the picture will play in shoot order. I haven't viewed my slideshow in the "Random" view, so I don't know how often the same photo would repeat.

Great Camera, but disappointed by image quality I bought this camera after a series of other Canon p&s camera (PowerShot series). great deal for extra space! Great little memory card. Be mindful that it is an SDHC, so it may not be compatible with all of you electronics and/or may need to be formatted. Good buy for the price, but there are better cameras out there I've owned four 7MP+ cameras, and this one comes in last for picture quality. Considering this was half of the price of any of the others, I'm not complaining too much. My primary reason for purchasing this inexpensive camera is so that my husband and daughter will stop borrowing mine, and that mission has now been accomplished. What I have found with this camera is that when using the preset modes, every picture I've taken has come out darker than expected. I've had to go in and adjust the brightness more than with any other camera I've ever owned. I tend to do heavy photo editing, so that was not a big deal for me considering I normally crop, adjust tones and saturation, add text, add frames, and often convert to black and white or sepia. I have not experimented yet with manual modes, and probably won't due to the fact that my husband and daughter will be the primary users. This camera comes with no internal memory at all, which I found to be a downside. An SD card was not included either, so you'll want to order one with this camera. I bought the Transcend 4 GB SDHC SD Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS4GSDHC6E [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] and it can hold over 1000 photos taken at full resolution. The battery life is excellent on this camera. I've already taken 150+ photos with the children and the batteries have not yet run out. What most impresses me with this camera is one of the few point and shoot digital cameras that can accept a wide angle or telephoto lens. I plan to order the wide angle lens and put it into my daughters stocking. (Just search Amazon for a590is lens and several options will show up.)

If you're looking for a sturdy and good quality camera at a competitively low price, you're not gonna get much better than this. I've been into amateur photography for a while, so I've been a great fan of point&shoot cameras such as the Sony Cybershot (For 3 years) and now my four month old Canon Powershot A590IS camera. From the description and price of the product alone, I felt compelled to purchase the PowerShot almost instantly. However being a person who always looks for the best deal, I window-shopped around for a while. As you can guess I eventually made the purchase and can say I am very content with the camera. Being an amateur at photography, I haven't been too good at getting live-action shots, so the Image Stabilization was good catch for me. However after extensive use of the camera, I must say that and the night scene/portrait shots are the two features I have been fairly disappointed with.

Good for the price This is a good entry level telephoto zoom. Works fine for people like me who need telephoto lens only occasionally. Yes, it is all plastic and cheaply built, but that makes it very light weight. The auto focusing is a little bit slow, but this is what you can expect from a lens of this price. However, if you have large budget and will like to use a telephoto more often, go get yourself a better lens.

It would be 5* but for one failing. I've had this camera 1 year now. It's the Euro model [IXUS 850 IS] which is the same beast as the SD800. Good Camera As an amature photographer taking pictures of family,friends and interesing places this camera is the best. I like its portability - I am able to carry it anywhere. Very Good Reference This book is a very good reference to use to learn the functions available for the XSi/450D camera. Much more user friendly than the instruction manual included by Canon with the camera. Still full of lingo that the average user may not be familiar with. From Beginner to Beginner This is my first SLR and it only took three years of research and self-justification to finally take the plunge and so far I don't have any regrets! I went with the 18-55 kit lens and the matching 55-250 lens to stay within a budget and even my worse pictures in automatic mode are optically better than my late model point and shoot. Moving from a point and shoot to an SLR is a little overwhelming. Concepts like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and how they relate do take some time to understand but once you get past that hurdle - all of the buttons just seem to make sense somehow. If you don't have a friend that can help you, I definitely recommend studying the basic mechanical concepts and reading up on composition tips - and then go out and shoot a ton of photos [just for fun] and try out some different things. Can't get mini disc to load into a side loading CD reader I gave this keychain to a friend for her birthday. She called me over one day because she couldn't get it to load into her side loading cd player. This product comes with a mini cd software disc. The mini disc is too small for her side loading cd reader to read. She must need some kind of mini cd adapter for her reader to be able to read it. Maybe we'll try to copy the disc to a standard sized cd so she'll be able to use it.

THIS LITTLE CAMERA IS A PRO! NICE FEATURES AND GREAT PHOTOS! This is one great little camera! It works as advertised. Great looking pictures. Lots of nice features. I got the camera a few days ago, and I have been able to take very nice photos. Does not require a lot of knowledge of photography. The only complain, so far, would be that it doesn't come with a carrying case. I wish Canon could include a carrying case for this little powerful camera to protect it on the go. Other than that, so far, so good. The camera works as it should. So if you need a little camera that is also full of features and takes great pictures, the A590 should be on top of your list. Get it with the Kingston 4GB SDHC card and you too will have nice things to say about this nice little performer.
Disappointed I bought the 590 after I lost my 630. Loved the 630, very disappointed in the 590. Only got 20-30 pics from a set of rechargeable batteries. Couldn't see the screen in daylight. I am sending it back.
Great value, fantastic performance, and IS make this a winner I'm a casual camera user-- almost never tweak settings like a knowledgeable photographer. I've owned about five digital cameras before the Canon PowerShot A590 IS, and I'm stunned at the difference. This little camera is a revelation for me. It's like the leap from a disposable to a 35mm SLR. The clarity and color are great, and probably most importantly, the image-stabilization reverses my "good photo" ratio. Know what I mean? With previous cameras, perhaps 20% of them were sharp enough to really use. With this one, at least 80% of them are. In fact, after having taken only a few dozen photos, I'm over 90%. In low light and with moving images or a moving/shaking camera, you can't beat this for value and performance. As of November 2008, I cannot recommend any camera without optical (NOT digital!) image stabilization. Canon has been doing IS for years (I have a pair of their IS-empowered binoculars-- also great!), and for the current price of $110, this thing is amazing. Good luck! But whatever you do, get optical IS!!!
